Apple will this month once again wow us with its online event, the second showcase for 2020. Here's when to tune into the Apple event, and what to expect.

Apple Event – September 2020

Date and Time

Apple confirmed that their upcoming will take place on Tuesday 15 September 2020 at 10:00 PST. If you're viewing from South Africa, that would be 19:00 South African Standard Time (SAST).

The event will be broadcast from Apple Park but held online, due to the novel coronavirus. This year's event is aptly titled Time Flies, which could be a reference to Apple's new Watch 6.

Either way, it's fitting, considering that the previous event took place in June, even though it feels like it was just last week.

What to expect from the Apple event

Apple will most likely showcase the Watch 6, along with an iPad Air 4, the Apple One service bundle and various other software updates, possibly additional details on iOS 14, watchOS 7, iPadOS 14, and tvOS 14.

While most of this is speculation, everyone seems to agree that we won't see the new iPhone 12 series at Apple's September event. Apple will reportedly only unveil the iPhone 12 in October 2020.

"For the 'Time Flies' event on the 15th, what I've been told is coming for sure is: Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 6 (or Apple Watch & Watch Pro) iPad Air 4, iPad 8. I'm sure there might be more, but that's the main focus of the event. No iPhone or AirPods Studio".Jon Prosser

Possible reasons for iPhone 12 delay

In addition, trusted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo warned earlier this year that the upcoming iPhones may launch outside of the normal timeline, due to changes to the antenna package and the impact of the pandemic.

Other factors added to the delay as well, such as several Apple suppliers reporting delays. For example, Qualcomm was the first to hint a post-September release, citing a "slight delay" during the fourth quarter

And Broadcom, the company that manufactures most of the ‌iPhone's components‌, mentioned a "major product cycle delay" at a "large North American mobile phone" company back in June.

"The question is timing. This year, we do not expect to see this uptick in revenue until our fourth fiscal quarter. So accordingly, we expect, our wireless revenue in Q3 will be down sequentially."Broadcom CEO Hock Tan

Apple will reportedly unveil the entire series of 5G-compatible iPhone 12 devices at a rumoured October event. It's worth the wait; rumour has it the series will be equipped with larger camera sensors and LiDAR scanner. Read more here.
