The Lions will be frantically searching for a new Super Rugby head coach after the union announced on Friday that Swys de Bruin has resigned.
According to a statement, the departure was by mutual agreement.
It has been a difficult year for De Bruin, who took a hiatus during this year's tournament to recover from a stress-related illness.
He then quit his position as attacking consultant to the Springboks close to the World Cup squad announcement for the same reason.
The union will consult with SA Rugby to find a suitable replacement.
