A 90-year-old woman and her 60-year-old daughter were both fatally shot during a house break-in that took place in Tshilwavhusikhu, Limpopo. Four members of the armed gang have since been arrested and will appear in court on Wednesday, but one of the criminals remains at large.
Matamela Ramala and her daughter Martha Ramala were attacked just after 21:30. Once the thugs had forced their way into the home, they opened fire on the pair. Police have been left baffled by the possible motivations for this crime, although they wasted no time in apprehending the suspects, who were caught within 24 hours of committing these horrendous acts.
Elderly woman gunned down by crooks
SAPS issued a statement on the matter on Tuesday. They confirmed that another relative in the house escaped unharmed, and no possessions or cash was stolen during the chaos.
"Five armed suspects forced entry into a house at Gogobole village under Tshilwavhusikhu policing area in Limpopo, by breaking the window at about 21:30 and allegedly started shooting at the family members, instantly killing a 90-year-old woman and her 60-year-old daughter."
"One family member escaped unhurt. Nothing was taken from the house. The horrendous nature of these crimes necessitated a 72-hours activation plan which was immediately implemented. After intensive investigations which took less than 24 hours, the police managed to arrest four suspects today 15 June."

The suspects will appear in Tshilwavhusikhu Magistrate's Court tomorrow, each facing two counts of murder. Limpopo SAPS are still hoping to find the fifth accomplice in this break-in, and advise anyone with information about their whereabouts to contact the authorities through the following channels:
