COVID-19 latest: 88 new deaths as cases increase to 73 533

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize announced that as of Monday 15 June, South Africa has 73 533 confirmed COVID-19 cases, an increase of 3 495 since the last report on Sunday.


He also announced the deaths of a further 88 people due to the rapidly spreading virus, bringing the total number of South Africans who have died to 1 568.


In the last 24-hours, 1 148 933 tests were completed, with 26 975 tests conducted overall. On a positive note, 39 867 people have successfully recovered from the virus.

The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in each province as of Monday 15 June: 

  1. Gauteng – 12 193 cases;

  2. Western Cape – 44 143 cases; [*]KwaZulu-Natal – 3 959cases; [*]Free State –  512 cases; [*]Eastern Cape –  10 597 cases; [*]Limpopo –  362 cases; [*]Mpumalanga –  322 cases; [*]North West –  1 177 cases; [*]Northern Cape – 205 cases; and  [*]Unknown –  63 cases
