COVID-19 latest: SA cases rise by 767, deaths increase by 26

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Tuesday 19 May that South Africa has now reported 17 200 cases of COVID-19, with 767 new cases in the last 24-hours since Monday's update.


He also said that 26 more people have died of the virus, bringing the total to 312.


A total of 488 609 tests have been completed, with 13 538 in the past 24-hours, and 7 960 people have recovered from the virus in full.

Provincial breakdown:


The following confirmed COVID-19 cases have been detected in each province as of Tuesday 19 May: 

  1. Gauteng – 2 361 cases;

  2. Western Cape – 10 639 cases; [*]KwaZulu-Natal – 1 616 cases; [*]Free State – 168 cases; [*]Eastern Cape – 2 135 cases; [*]Limpopo – 94 cases; [*]Mpumalanga – 78 cases; [*]North West – 72 cases; [*]Northern Cape – 37 cases; and [*]Unknown – 0 cases.
