Kaizer Chiefs are just too far ahead concede title rivals_1

Supersport United boss Kaitano Tembo may not be ready to give up on chasing Kaizer Chiefs, but his star striker says fixating on the league leaders will hamper Matsatsantsa’s progress.

Bradley Grobler has been integral to the successes of Supersport United this term scoring ten times in Premiership competition but he doesn’t feel the club have a realistic shot at closing the eleven point gap between themselves and Kaizer Chiefs.

Supersport want to build on MTN 8 success

Supersport won the MTN 8 earlier this season, but the league leaders sport an 11-point lead on them, and Kaizer Chiefs have two games in hand to boot.

Speaking ahead of the Tshwane derby against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup, Grobler urged his teammates to take things one game at a time to give themselves a decent shot at continental football next season.

“I think if we can be realistic with ourselves, Chiefs are far away from us,” Grobler admitted.
“I think if we are going to say we will win the league, we would be very optimistic. I think we just need to focus on ourselves.
“We set targets for ourselves, we want to finish as high as we can. We shall focus on that and whatever happens, happens.

Kaizer Chiefs are way ahead

“I think Chiefs are way ahead of us. If we chase them it’s going to be difficult.”

The Nedbank Cup offers a slot in the Caf Confederations Cup as does third place in the league, both are attainable goals for the club, but they will need to be at their best to give themselves a chance.

Grobler also has personal ambitions for this season as he competes for the Golden Boot award. His ten goals put him joint-third alongside Kaizer Chiefs’ striker Samir Nurkovic, both are four goals behind Orlando Pirates hitman Gabadinho Mhango who has raced to 14.

“I think for any striker, if the desire is not there to be a top goalscorer, you are wasting your time,” Grobler adds.
“Of course I will fight till the last game of the season. I think it’s going to be a very interesting race. There’s lot of good players out there who are scoring regularly.
“So it’s going to be very interesting. My main target is to play games, play week in and week out. I will fight till the last day to be the top scorer.”
