Super Rugby Highlights – Friday 31 July

Isi Naisarani scored a try in Super Time as the Melbourne Rebels sealed a 25-20 win over the Western Force in Friday's Super Rugby AU clash in Sydney.

The match was tightly contested throughout. Momentum ebbed and flowed between the two sides, but the Rebels were able to seal the win early in Super Time after the sides were deadlocked at 20-20 at the end of regulation time.

The Rebels outscored the Force three tries to two, with Jordan Uelese and Matt Philip crossing before Naisarani's match-winner. Matt Toomua also slotted two conversions and a penalty and Reece Hodge also succeeded with a three-pointer.

Fergus Lee-Warner and Byron Ralston scored the Force's tries, and Jono Lance contributed 10 points courtesy of two conversions and a brace of penalty goals.

The Crusaders bounced back from last week's Super Rugby Aotearoa defeat with a 32-19 triumph over the winless Chiefs in Hamilton.

After the disappointment of their last outing, when the Hurricanes visited Christchurch and came away with a rare win, Scott Robertson's charges responded superbly.

They went 12-0 ahead in the opening quarter via Tom Sanders, and Will Jordan tries to take command of the encounter, but the hosts hit back as Lachlan Boshier touched down and Damian McKenzie kicked a penalty.

Codie Taylor then crossed the whitewash before a trio of McKenzie three-pointers kept the home side in contention, but the South Islanders ultimately did enough. A controversial Sevu Reece score, followed by Leicester Fainga'anuku's effort, proved decisive as it moved the Crusaders seven points clear at the top of the table.

For the second time in Super Rugby AU, the Brumbies snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Mack Hansen kicked a last-minute penalty to beat the Reds 22-20.

Dan McKellar's men, who are still unbeaten in Australian derbies since March 2019, initially dominated the clash and front-rower Folau Fainga'a made it 24 tries in 37 games with a first-half brace.

James O'Connor's penalty was the Reds' only response before the interval, but quickfire scores via Harry Wilson and Angus Scott-Young altered the momentum in the second period.

O'Connor then kicked his second three-pointer to leave the hosts with plenty to do in the final 10 minutes, but they somehow found a way as Connal McInerney's try and Hansen's penalty turned it around.
