Johannesburg launches tourism campaign to promote the City of Gold

The "Welcome2Joburg – A City Reimagined" campaign, run by Joburg Tourism, was founded to "inform and educate Joburgers on how to be great Johannesburg ambassadors, promote the city, enhance a Joburg visitor's experience and ensure that they go home with great memories."


The campaign will also see a variety of tourism activities being held throughout September.   

A call for friendly Joburg ambassadors


At the recent launch held at the Hilton Hotel in Johannesburg, MMC for Economic Development of Johannesburg, Ruby Mathang said, "Joburg attracts a lot of visitors from destinations all around the world and the reasons for their visit are as diverse as the visitors themselves."


He called for local Joburgers to become the city's ambassadors and help to make a visitor's day by being "helpful, courteous and friendly" and "showing them the city's rich culture, heritage, leisure and lifestyle attractions, and activities".


He also reiterated that welcoming visitors to the city and encouraging them to stay and enjoy all that the city has to offer would contribute to Johannesburg's economy and ultimately create job creation and transformation.


"By giving our visitors the best experiences while in our vibrant city, we are nurturing and growing tourism's contribution to our local economy, which is advantageous to all of us," said Mathang.




A month of activities and other diverse offerings in Johannesburg


The "Welcome2Joburg – A City Reimagined" campaign will involve a wide range of diverse offerings to promote tourism from entertainment and leisure pursuits and outdoor activities to heritage, lifestyle, and cultural offerings.


According to Director of Joburg Tourism, Thandubuhle Mgudlwa, "Visitors will be taken on a journey to explore the city's diverse offerings and shown its world-class business facilities, and various platforms and activities will be used to promote tourism activities in the city and surroundings."


With the country moving out of lockdown and attractions and sites beginning to open up again, Joburg Tourism is looking to partner with local stakeholders to use social media to attract visitors to a range of products that fall under the Welcome2Joburg campaign.


Visitors can enjoy a variety of promotions and specials throughout the campaign, including exclusive accommodation packages, food and beverage promotions, and an array of activities.
