DJ Maphorisa in Police Custody After Attack on Thuli Phongolo

Renowned DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Sonnyboy Sekowe, has been taken into custody after physically assaulting his girlfriend, Thulisile Phongolo.

The DJ spent the night at the Sandton police station and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at the Randburg magistrate's court, charged with Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Reports suggest that the incident occurred when Phongolo confronted Maphorisa regarding an argument that had taken place between them during a recent event over the weekend.

Phongolo, a former actress on Generations: The Legacy, bravely disclosed, "He held me, took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck."

Thuli's manager, speaking to Sunday World, expressed concern for her well-being, stating, "We are still trying to gather information about how she is doing. I am meeting with her in the next hour... We need to understand the situation better... She was with her road manager at the time."

A source familiar with the case revealed that DJ Maphorisa sought bail but was denied. The Amapiano star now faces a serious charge of assault GBV, and the court will decide on his eligibility for bail.

The couple had reportedly been dating for nearly two years before this incident, shedding light on the distressing issue of domestic violence within intimate relationships.
