Thabang Molaba, AKA Abuti Thabi, Kevinn or Kale Dinero was born in Bethlehem, Free State on the 18th of December 1994.
He was raised in Harrismith by both his parents, who were teachers at local schools. Thabang Molaba went to Tshwane University of Technology, where he graduated with a diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. However, Thabang always had his eyes set on acting. After graduating, he moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career in modeling and acting.
You have seen this star in the Netflix Original Series Blood and Water playing the role of Karabo 'KB' Molapo, close family friend of Fikile Bhele, the star swimmer of Parkhurst High School. He falls in love with Phuleng Khumalo while she goes on an investigation to find out the truth about her older sister who was kidnapped at birth. But where did it all start?
When asked by SowetanLIVE how he was discovered, he said he doesn't remember how it happened, just that a lot of people encouraged him to try out different gigs.
Molaba then appeared in a TV ad for Wimpy, and other ad campaigns for Ackermans, 5FM and Edgars. One of his first bigger gigs was a cameo in the Comedy Central sitcom 'I Live with A Model'.
Molaba's acting career took off when he was cast in the local Mzansi Magic soapie 'The Queen'. He played the role of Gift Mabuza, Gracious Mabuza's spoilt son. Thabang Molaba has also been cast in other local soapies; he played the role of Fumane in 'Ring of Lies' and Mark in 'Diamond City'.
Molaba also released his first solo music album Soul and Ties in 2019, and then an EP titled Champagne Showers in 2020. His music is something he hopes to keep up, even with his newfound fame as an actor. Rumour has it that he has signed for hip-hop biopic African American. The film will be about the rise of hip-hop in South Africa in the post-Apartheid era. It's based on the story of Syd Money (rumoured to be played by Chicago rapper Vic Mensa) and his partnership with kasi rap pioneer ProKid. We surely hope Thabang's music efforts will be noticed by big support organisations like MTN, who believe in local talent.
Currently, Thabang Molaba has an estimated net worth of $65 000 (R975 000). He currently has 471K followers on Instagram, and his primary sources of income are acting, modelling, music and being a brand ambassador.
His ultimate goal is to make it in the United States, and it looks like Blood and Water is that stepping stone for him.
