Sport documentary: 'All or Nothing'

/\r\n/Amazon Studios produces the series All or Nothing where each show covers a professional sports franchise.

The series ranges from the National Football League in the US through to international rugby and now it looks at UK soccer.

It debuted in 2016 with All or Nothing: A Season with the Arizona Cardinals. In 2020 it's the turn of All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur.

The series goes undercover and films the operations, practices and competitions of teams to give never-seen-before insight into the world of sport.

The most recent subject is 2019 UEFA Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur.

Then COVID-19 struck, and the eight-episode spectacle became nine when football resumed after the pandemic. So far, six of those nine episodes have released with the final three streaming this week.

Hollywood superstar Tom Hardy narrates the unscripted series which begins with a showcase of Tottenham's prized history.

It also shows the positive impact former manager Mauricio Pochettino has had on the club.

The makers of the show had full access to the club with activity in all areas. A total of  25 remotely-operated fixed cameras captured the action. In addition 66 ambient microphones were installed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the club's training centre in Enfield.

These recording devices were in the home-team dressing room as well as the offices of key figures. This included new manager José Mourinho — whose arrival sparked much media activity./\r\n//\r\n/All or Nothing gives an insight into the way transfers are made as well as a glimpse into the tactical training sessions under "The Special One" Mourinho.

It also gives a view of how star players such as England captain Harry Kane fought through injury to play under the new manager.

Fans of the club will see how chairman Daniel Levy runs their team while general footballing fans will be transported into the world they love so much yet know so little about.

  1. All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur is a must-watch for fans of English football and is now streaming globally on Amazon Prime Video.

Crime thriller: 'V'

What to watch: It's 'All or Nothing' this week with sport and crime

South Indian crime thriller 'V'.

A south Indian crime thriller is something that, as a genre, is growing in the global film world.

With superstars from the south building up such a good reputation in recent years, Amazon Prime Video's latest release, V, is worth talking about.

Featuring Naveen "Nani" Babu Ghanta in the leading role, the film showcases a showdown between a celebrated cop and a serial killer.

As Prime Video says in the synopsis, the consequences are "laced with heavy-duty action, playful romance and dark humour".

This the first time we are seeing Nani play a villain, so different from previous roles, and he proves again what a natural star he is./\r\n//\r\n/Writer-director Mohana Krishna Indraganti provides a well-written script and keeps the audience engaged.

With twists and turns an essential part of any crime thriller, Indraganti ensures they play an important role here too.

Despite some predictability, the entertainment quotient is high, with never a dull moment in the screenplay.

Amit Trivedi provides a solid soundtrack and S Thaman's background score is haunting. You will remember this music long after the credits roll and that is exactly how it should be, as it is absolutely remarkable.

  1. The highly recommended V is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and rates 8/10.
