Tony Allen, the legendary drummer of the band, Africa 70, has died.
The 79-year-old, who was the pioneering drummer of the legendary band, was a drummer, composer and also a songwriter for Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
He died in Paris, France, on Thursday, April 30, after battling with an undisclosed complications.
Tony who is regarded as one of the founders of Afrobeat, was born in Lagos in 1940.
Fela Anikulapo Kuti praised him and declared there wouldn't have been Afrobeat without the input of the great Tony Allen.
Tony Allen released an autobiography in 2013 where he documented his career and life story: Master Drummer of Afrobeat, co-written with author/musician Michael E. Veal, who previously wrote a comprehensive biography of Fela Kuti.
He has since been described by Brian Eno as "perhaps the greatest drummer who ever lived".
